About the Presentation:  Fred Rau of The Rotary Club of Forest Lake will speak about the Global Grant – “Mukuyuini Flows Forever” that his club is writing.  The goal of the project is to provide a source of clean water for the village of Kalimoni in Kenya.  Initially approximately 2500 people will benefit from it, with this number expected to increase over time. 
 
About the Speaker:  Fred Rau is a Rotarian of some 30 plus years, most of which were spent in Litchfield, MN, where he served as President twice and did another water grant in a different part of Kenya.  Fred and his wife owned and operated a garden center and landscaping business in the Litchfield area for over 25 years.  They have two children and four grandchildren, three of whom live in Lino Lakes, MN, which is why they now live in Hugo, just south of Forest Lake.  Fred is the self - designated “International Projects Chair” of the club.

Economic and Social impact of Nonprofit Arts in the St Croix Valley - Astounding!
Art Reach St Croix in conjunction with Americans for the Arts recently completed Arts and Economic Prosperity 6: The Economic and Social Impact Study of Nonprofit Arts and Culture Organizations and Their Audiences in the St Croix Valley.  The final conclusions are astounding! The arts and culture sector is essential to the prosperity and vitality of the St. Croix Valley. Stephani is excited to share with you the results on how the Arts help create a vibrant St Croix Valley alive with culture, commerce and connection.

About the Speaker:  Stephani Atkins is the founder and former Executive Director of StoryArk, a nonprofit that empowers youth to create original podcasts, films and the literary arts. Through her business Funded! By Grants, she runs "WHY" Workshops and writes grants to support the mission of her nonprofit clients. In her artistic career, she is President of SummerSnow Publications. Stephani is the aspiring creator of a new form of reading - the SummerSnow multimedia serial story which reads like an ebook but interweaves audio, image and film throughout the narrative. In addition, she has written a novel, edited TV spec scripts, hosted a radio show, and presented a TEDx talk entitled "World in Uproar: How Stories, Not Facts, Will Save the day.” Stephani is honored to be an Arts Ambassador for Art Reach St Croix and have the opportunity to share the economic and social impact of the Arts in the St Croix Valley.

Our 5th Tuesday project for April is focused on UW-RF students.  As the students begin finals week, Rotarians are going to be giving away 300 individually wrapped Best Maid cookies.  Labels will be affixed at the April 30th meeting.  Along with the Rotary logo, the labels will have a few lines of encouragement for the students as they prepare for their exams.
Maureen Ollie-LaJoie will present an overview of ways that the University of Wisconsin River Falls library and archives can be resources for the greater community.
 
 
Samantha Bluhm provided Rotary with a brief overview of the Powerful Perspectives and Thrive Model that she has developed, motivated by her personal experience and leading to the book she authored:  "You Were Born for More:  Unpack What Holds You Back".   A key concept the model is the Awareness Line, dividing emotional states into those focusing on survival below the line as contrasted to those above the line that can lead to thriving.  Samantha left us with a few copies of her book that are available at meetings.  Click Read More to see a larger photo of the cover.
 
Samantha Bluhm Bio:  Samantha Bluhm is a master-certified life coach, speaker, and author of You Were Born for More - a memoir-style self-help book filled with stories and powerful perspectives on leadership, parenting, and relationships.
